Recent Events

The Recent Events window provides continuous feeds to multiple user-configurable locations; delivering on-going updated information on stock splits, mergers, tender offers, partial/full calls, redemptions, name changes, etc. EventsData message feeds enable users to capture and analyze breaking business developments as they occur and respond immediately to directives from customers and the front office.

Each event shows the following information:

·        Event Date: The Date and Time the Event was reported.

·        Type: The type of action that occurred.

·        Event Description: Shows the company that the event occurred in and a brief description of the event.

To get further information on an Event, click on the Event Description. This will open up a new window showing some more detailed information about the event and the company that it occurred in. From there you can get to further info on that company/security and their historic events. See Recent Events Details Help for more.

By default all the Latest Events are shown for the data modules you have access to.  You can also choose to view the Last 7 Days Events, Last 14 Days Events, or the Last 30 Days Events by clicking on the corresponding links at the top of the Recent Events window.

Events are listed from most recent to oldest. Each page of events shows 25 events. Use the scroll bar to see all events in the window. Select the page of events you wish to view by using the page navigation links on the top right of the Recent Events window.

The top left of the Recent Events window show the time of the last refresh of information and how many events are found.

 

Recent Events Refresh

Refreshing the Recent Events page will load any events that occurred since the last time the page was loaded or refreshed. You can set the time interval the page will automatically refresh using the Recent Events Refresh Rate button on the top right. Clicking on the button will scroll you through the following refresh options:

·        90 Second Refresh

·        5 Minute Refresh

·        15 Minute Refresh

·        No Auto-Refresh

You can also manually refresh the events page by click on your browsers refresh button or by clicking on the Refresh Events button at the bottom of the Recent Events Filter box on the right of the page.

 

Recent Events Filter

On the right of the Recent Events window just below the refresh button is the Recent Events Filter. Simply check-off the event types you wish to be displayed.  There is a Select All Events button below the event types to automatically check them all off. Once you select the event types you should refresh the window, using one of the methods outline in the Recent Events Refresh section above, to see only the events you specified, or you can wait for any auto refresh to occur, if one is set.

Note:  Only event types you subscribe to are available to be selected. Types you do not subscribe to will be grayed out.

 

Searching All Events

To the left of the Recent Events window you will find a group of buttons under the heading “Mergent’s Suite of Events Databases”. Clicking on one of these buttons will take you to the corresponding Search interfaces where you can enter criteria to find the data you’re interested in. The following search options are available:

·        Corporate Actions: Search for securities with any corporate action types like mergers, acquisitions, name changes, exchange delistings, ticker symbol changes, preferred stock redemptions, and other events that affect companies and securities.

·        Dividends: Search for Dividend information on over 64,000 dividend-paying stocks and mutual funds, as well as ADRs, GDRs, and their underlying foreign shares.

·        UIT: Get securities with Unit Investment Trust information that match your criteria

·        Fixed Income: Find detailed bond data on Corporate bonds, Corporate MTN (Medium-Term Notes), etc.

·        Muni Called Bond: Search on municipal called bond information

·        Issue Search: Search for a specific company or security of interest then find all related info on them.

Note: Only modules you subscribe to will be available. Modules you do not subscribe to will be grayed-out.

 

Impact Reports

Impact Reports are downloadable, spreadsheet format, reports that show all actions types for specific events that occurred during one of the predefined time periods available. On the Recent Events page you can access the impact reports by clicking on one of the report types listed on the bottom left of the page. The following impact reports are listed:

·        Equity Redemptions

·        Dividend Payments

·        Stock Splits

·        Announced calls

·        Scheduled Calls

You can access more impact reports by clicking on the Additional Impact Reports link, as well.

Clicking on any of these links will open up a new window where you can define the report contents. See Impact Report Building help.

 

Alerts

With EventsData Portfolio Alerts entitled you can setup a list of companies and events so you are alerted via email as soon as one of your companies release info related to the type of alert you setup.

You can setup or edit your alerts by clicking on the My Alerts link on the top left of the recent events page. Whether you’re setting up an alert for the first time or going in to view or edit your current alert list you will be prompted to enter your email address once you click on the My Alerts link. After you enter your email address you will be taken to the alerts setup page. For more information on how to setup or edit alerts see the Portfolio Alerts Help page.

Note: No matter how many user licenses you have for Mergent’s EventsData site, an unlimited number of users can setup their own alerts through this interface.

Note: This interface is designed to easily setup alerts for individual companies/securities. For large groups of alerts you can request Mergent set them up for you; You will need to include CUSIPs for each security on your list (or some other unique identifier), which events you want to be alerted about (from the list of available event types on the alert builder page), and the email address of all the users you want copied on the alerts. Send these requests to technicalsupport@mergent.com.

Issue Searches

The issue search allows you to find any of Mergent’s equity or debt issues.

 

North American Search

Search for issues by entering any one of the following criteria:

·        Issuer: Enter any part of the Issuer's name. An Issuer is also known as an Entity or Company within the EventsData site. The search will find all the issuer names that contain the criteria you enter. For example, 'General' would return General Electric Corp. as well as AM General Corp.

·        CUSIP/Cins: CUSIP is a nine-character number that uniquely identifies a particular security. Cins are used for non-US securities. Enter a minimum of 6 digits to begin searching.

·        Ticker: Ticker searches must be exact matches to return results. Tickers are searched against U.S. and Canadian exchanges.

To only search for active issues or issuers, check the Exclude Inactive Entities/Issues box.

 

International Search

Search by any one of the following criteria to find any of Mergent's equity or debt issues.

·        Issuer: Enter any part of the Issuer's name. An Issuer is also known as an Entity or Company within the EventsData site. The search will find all the issuer names that contain the criteria you enter. For example, 'General' would return General Electric Corp. as well as AM General Corp.

·        CUSIP/Cins: CUSIP is a nine-character number that uniquely identifies a particular security. Cins are used for non-US securities. Enter a minimum of 6 digits to begin searching.

·        Ticker/Local Code: Ticker searches must be exact matches to return results. Tickers are searched against all exchanges except U.S. and Canadian.

·        ISIN: ISIN is a twelve-character number that uniquely identifies a particular security.

 


Corporate Actions Searches

North American Search

Mergent’s up-to-date Corporate Actions data on all North American listed securities. Listings include mergers, acquisitions, name changes, exchange delistings, ticker symbol changes, preferred stock redemptions, and other events that affect companies and securities. All data is verified against proven sources and reported in concise transaction terms & conditions.

Steps for building criteria (You must complete all 3 steps):

1.      Select Event: Event searches will find all issues that have been affected by the selected event. Only one event can be selected per criterion.

2.      Select Effective Date: Date the action became effective. Enter a range of dates in which to search for the selected corporate action event.
And/Or: If you wish to include an exchange in your criteria choose this drop-down menu and select the appropriate option.
Exchanges: Exchange searches will find all Corporate Action events that occurred on issues that are listed on the selected exchange. Only one exchange can be selected per criterion.
Note: You can enter criteria for either or both the Effective Date and the Exchange.

3.      After you create your criteria in the above steps click on the Add Criterion button. Your criteria will then populate the Select Events Where.. box.

: Repeat above steps to add additional criteria. To search for issues that meet all of the criteria make sure Matches on All Criteria (AND) is selected. To search for issues that meet one or more of the criteria make sure Matches on Any Criteria (OR) is selected.

 

International Search

Daily comprehensive international corporate actions from over 130 exchanges. Segmented into five different continental regions - Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East, subscribers can customize their international corporate actions data needs.

Steps for building criteria (You must complete all 4 steps):

1.      Select Region: Region searches will find all Corporate Action events that occurred on issues where the Issuer is incorporated in the selected region. Only one region can be selected per criterion.

2.      Select Event: Event searches will find all issues that have been affected by the selected event. Only one event can be selected per criterion.

3.      Select Effective Date: Date the action became effective. Enter a range of dates in which to search for the selected corporate action event.
And/Or: If you wish to include an exchange in your criteria choose this drop-down menu and select the appropriate option.
Exchanges: Exchange searches will find all Corporate Action events that occurred on issues that are listed on the selected exchange. Only one exchange can be selected per criterion.
Note: You can enter criteria for either or both the Effective Date and the Exchange.

4.      After you create your criteria in the above steps click on the Add Criterion button. Your criteria will then populate the Select Events Where.. box.

Dividend Searches

North American Dividends

Mergent’s Corporate Dividends have ten years of information on over 64,000 dividend-paying stocks and mutual funds, as well as ADRs, GDRs, and their underlying foreign shares.  Includes indicated annual dividend calculations, dividend distributions and capital gains. Capital changes such as splits, stock dividends, rights and extra, and numerous others.

North American Basic Search

Choose any combination of Identifier and Date Range search criteria.

1.      Identifier Search: Select any one of the following identifier options:

·        Ticker: Ticker searches must be exact matches to return results. Tickers are searched against U.S. and Canadian exchanges.

·        CUSIP: CUSIP is a nine-character number that uniquely identifies a particular security trading on U.S. exchanges. Enter a minimum of 6 digits to begin searching.

·        Issuer: Enter any part of the Issuer's name. The search will find all the issuer names that contain the criteria you enter. For example, 'General' would return General Electric Corp. as well as AM General Corp.

·        CINS: CINS is a nine-character number that uniquely identifies a particular security trading on exchanges outside the U.S. Enter a minimum of 6 digits to begin searching.

2.      Date Range: Select any one of the following criteria to search on and then enter your starting and ending dates. Dates must be formatted as mm/dd/yyyy.

·        ExDate: For stock splits, this date represents the date the share price changes to reflect the split. For dividends, this date represents the date that if an investor must own the stock to be eligible for the dividend payout.

·        Record: Date set by the issuer in order to receive a declared dividend or distribution.

·        Payable: Date a dividend will be paid to shareholders.

·        Declared: Date on which a dividend has been announced.

 

North American Advanced Search

With the Advanced Search you can build multiple criteria on more data points than is available on the basic search interface. You must complete all 4 steps to successfully build your criteria.

  1. Step 1 - Select Category:  Choose the data point you want to search on by clicking on the corresponding option button. Select from any of the below category options:

·        Issuer: Enter any part of the Issuer's name. The search will find all the issuer names that contain the criteria you enter. For example, 'General' would return General Electric Corp. as well as AM General Corp.

·        Ticker: Ticker searches must be exact matches to return results. Tickers are searched against U.S. and Canadian exchanges.

·        Status: Status type searches must be exact matches to return results. Enter either "T" (for Active) or "F" (for Inactive).

·        Security Type: Security type searches must be exact matches to return results.

·        Payment Amount: Dividend amount paid on one share of an issue.

·        CUSIP/CINS: CUSIP is a nine-character number that uniquely identifies a particular security trading on U.S. exchanges. CINS is a nine-character number that uniquely identifies a particular security trading on exchanges outside the U.S. Enter a minimum of 6 digits to begin searching.

  1. Step 2 – Select Operator: Choose the appropriate operator from this box.
  2. Step 3 – Enter Value: Enter the value for your criteria.
  3. Step 4 – Add Criterion: Click on the “Add Criterion” button in this section to set the criteria you just built.
  4. Step 5 (Optional): You can repeat steps 1 through 4 above as many times as necessary to enter all your criteria.

    Note: Repeat above steps to add additional criteria. To search for issues that meet all of the criteria make sure Matches on All Criteria (AND) is selected. To search for issues that meet one or more of the criteria make sure Matches on Any Criteria (OR) is selected.

 

International Dividends

Daily comprehensive international dividend information from over 100 exchanges. Segmented into five different continental regions - Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East, subscribers can customize their international dividends data needs.

International Basic Search

2.      Date Range: Select any one of the following criteria to search on and then enter your starting and ending dates. Dates must be formatted as mm/dd/yyyy.

·        ExDate/Effective Date: For stock splits, this date represents the date the share price changes to reflect the split. For dividends, this date represents the date that if an investor must own the stock to be eligible for the dividend payout.

·        Record: Date set by the issuer in order to receive a declared dividend or distribution.

·        Payable: Date a dividend will be paid to shareholders.

 

International Advanced Search

·        CUSIP/CINS: CUSIP is a nine-character number that uniquely identifies a particular security trading on U.S. exchanges. CINS is a nine-character number that uniquely identifies a particular security trading on exchanges outside the U.S. Enter a minimum of 6 digits to begin searching.

·        ISIN: ISIN is a twelve-character number that uniquely identifies a particular security.

·        Exchange: Exchange searches will find all Dividend events that occurred on issues that are listed on the selected exchange.

·        Event Type: Event searches will find all issues that have been affected by the selected event.

·        Region: Region searches will find all Dividend events that occurred on issues where the Issuer is incorporated in the selected region.

  1. Step 2 – Select Operator: Choose the appropriate operator from this box.
  2. Step 3 – Enter Value: Enter the value for your criteria. Depending on the Category you selected in Step 1 drop-down menus may be come active to select the appropriate search value.
  3. Step 4 – Add Criterion: Click on the “Add Criterion” button in this section to set the criteria you just built.
  4. Step 5 (Optional): You can repeat steps 1 through 4 above as many times as necessary to enter all your criteria.

    Note: Repeat above steps to add additional criteria. To search for issues that meet all of the criteria make sure Matches on All Criteria (AND) is selected. To search for issues that meet one or more of the criteria make sure Matches on Any Criteria (OR) is selected.

 


Fixed Income Search

Mergent’s Fixed Income data provides detailed bond data on Corporate, Corporate MTN (Medium Term Notes), etc. Features of our data include specific bond details encompassing Ratings history, announced calls, redemption details, schedules, exchange offers, and tender offers.

Search by using any combination of the following fields:

·        CUSIP: A nine-character number that uniquely identifies a particular security. Enter a minimum of 6 digits to begin searching.

·        Issuer Name: Enter any part of the Issuer's name. The search will find all the issuer names that contain the criteria you enter. For example, 'General' would return General Electric Corp. as well as AM General Corp.

·        Coupon Rate: The interest rate of the fixed income security. Coupon is also known as Coupon Yield. Only numeric digits are accepted in this field (no % is required).

·        Maturity Date Range: Maturity is the date at which the debt payment is due. Format dates as mm/dd/yyyy. In the first field enter the earliest maturity date you are searching for in the second field enter the latest maturity date. Data must be present in both fields to execute a search.

·        Bond Type: This field allows you to limit your search results to certain types of fixed income instruments. Select one of the rows from the drop down to add as criteria. This field can not be the only criteria searched upon. It is used to limit results that other criteria may generate.

·        Exclude Inactive Issues (Checkbox): To only search for active issues check off this box.

 


Unit Investment Trust (UIT) Search

Mergent’s UIT information provides access to the capability to accurately calculate principle and interest payments while monitoring distribution types for tax purposes. Our data elements include; CUSIP number, issuer name, issue description, record date, payment date, interest amount, principle amount, dividend income, capital gains, payment frequency, trust name, and sponsor name.

Search by using any one of the following criteria:

·        CUSIP: CUSIP is a nine-character number that uniquely identifies a particular security trading on U.S. exchanges. Enter a minimum of 6 digits to begin searching.

·        Issuer Name: Enter the beginning part of the Issuer's name. The search will find all the issuer names that begin with the criteria you enter. For example, 'Alabama' would return Alabama Tax Exempt Trust as well as Alabama Insured Municipal Income Tax Trust.

·        Issue Description: Enter the name of the issue you are searching for. This field is used for searching with the Issuer field. However if you are requiring this field to be included in your search you must check the Issue Description option button.

 


Municipal (Muni) Called Bond Search

Mergent’s Muni called bond data provides access to complete and structured municipal called bond data whose features include; call type (i.e. full/partial), paying agent address, delivery instructions, redemption date and total redemption amount.

Portfolio Alerts Help

With EventsData Portfolio Alerts entitled you can setup a list of companies and events so you are alerted via email as soon as one of your companies release info related to the type of alert you setup.

Note: If you subscribe to Mergent’s Alert service and you have a large list of securities (Over 100) you want to setup alerts for, please send the list with some type of unique identifier (i.e. CUSIP) in spreadsheet or .csv format, to technicalsupport@mergent.com. Please state your name and the institution you are part of that subscribes to this service in the email message.

To setup alerts follow the below instructions:

  1. From the Recent Events Page (The first page you get to after logging in) click on the My Alerts link on the top left.
  2. Enter your email address that you would like to receive these alerts in then click on the Edit My Alerts button. This takes you to the page where you can create or edit any alerts.

Adding My Alerts

There are three sections involved in setting up an alert:

  1. Step 1 – Select Mergent’s Events Database: You can choose the category of alerts you want to setup by selecting it from the drop-down menu in this section.
    Note: There are up to five options to choose from in this drop-down menu depending on which module(s) your institution subscribes to.
  2. Step 2 – Select Event: Choose the event(s) you want to be alerted about from this list box.
    Notes:
    -To select multiple events: Hold down the CTRL key and click on the event types you want to include.
    -To select a range of events: select the first one in the range then hold down the Shift key on your keyboard then click on the last event to highlight all events between the first and last events you selected.
  3. Step 3 – Enter Alert Criteria: Search by any one of the available criteria to find any of Mergent’s equity or debt issues, then click on the Search button:

·        Issuer: Enter any part of the Issuer's name. An Issuer is also known as an Entity or Company within the EventsData site. The search will find all the issuer names that contain the criteria you enter. For example, 'General' would return General Electric Corp. as well as AM General Corp.

·        CUSIP/Cins: CUSIP is a nine-character number that uniquely identifies a particular security. Cins are used for non-US securities. Enter a minimum of 6 digits to begin searching.

·        Ticker: Ticker searches must be exact matches to return results. Tickers are searched against U.S. and Canadian exchanges.

·        Issue Type: Select either Equity or Debt from this drop down menu.

·        To only search for active issues or issuers, check the Exclude Inactive Entities/Issues box.

  1. Click on the Search button to search for matching issues.
  2. Check off the check box to the left of the results for the issues/securities you want to add to your alert list. Then click on the Add Alerts button.
  3. Repeat Steps 1 through 5 above to add additional alerts.
